NIGERIAN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Several Nigerian events over time have proven that “once you get data, you nor fit dey bored.” Let’s dive into some of the latest entertainment news and events that made Nigerians excitingly cling to social media.

Mr. Eazi and Temi Otedola’s Multi-Country Wedding

First on the list is the #LoveIsEazi wedding. As the name implies, this union proved that love is indeed easy, as Afrobeats singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr. Eazi, tied the knot with Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, one of the wealthiest men in Africa.

Even though the couple chose #LoveIsEazi as the hashtag for their wedding, Nigerians have decided to call it the “multi-country wedding,” and for a good reason: the wedding ceremonies took place in not just three different countries, but two different continents!

In May 9, 2025, the couple held a private civil wedding ceremony in Monaco (Europe) which coincided with Mr. Eazi’s late mother’s birthday.

Two months later, they had a traditional Yoruba wedding at the Otedola family home in Dubai, Asia. The ceremony effortlessly showcased the beauty of the Yoruba culture and attire, with one outfit being a notable exception: the Akwa-Ocha (white cloth), which paid homage to Mr. Eazi’s late mother’s Igbo heritage.

Finally, in August 2025, they had the white wedding in Iceland (Europe) where Temi Otedola walked down the aisle in a breathtaking Fendi Haute Couture gown while Mr. Eazi wore a head-to-toe Saint Laurent outfit. Afterwards, the reception took place with a surprise performance by legendary John Legend as a gift from Mr. Eazi to Temi.  Another highlight of the #LoveIsEazi wedding was the stunning photos, which Vogue magazine featured exclusively. Given that the renowned Jose Villa was behind the lens, this outcome was hardly surprising.

This wedding was nothing less than an extreme display of wealth and elegance. Notable figures were also present, including legendary singer King Sunny Ade who performed at the traditional wedding; Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote who made a special promise to host “a very big party” for their first child, potentially at London, Miami or Iceland.

As the news about the multi-country wedding slowly fizzled out, news about Hilda Baci’s attempt to break the Guinness World Records for the largest pot of Nigerian-style jollof rice, quickly swooped in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilda_Baci

Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci breaks record

Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, is a Nigerian celebrity chef who gained international recognition in 2023 when she broke the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon. She cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes.

On the 12th of September 2025 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos State Nigeria, proudly sponsored by Gino, Hilda Baci attempted to break another Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780kg.

The anticipation of the cookout soon turned into a social media buzz, as some people wondered if it was even possible. But one thing about Nigerians is that, despite doubts and fears, they will always support their own. Over 20,000 Nigerians turned up for this record-breaking event to show love and support, and of course, with the prospect of getting free jollof rice.

Some distinguished guests were present, including The First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, who was officially represented by the Director General of ARCON and Pastor Bolaji Idowu who led the opening prayer.

Several celebrities, including Nigerian dancer Kaffy, who’s known for breaking the Guinness World Record for longest dance party, was present. Hilda Baci’s close friend Enioluwa Adeoluwa, who was visibly seen hyping the crowd; fashion designer Veekee James; BBNaija stars Tacha and Alex Unusual; awardwinning actress Funke Akindele and many more, were all present to cheer Hilda on.

After several hours, the food was finally ready, and everyone present got at least one plate from the largest pot of Nigerian-style jollof rice, though, as usual, some persons went home with more.

Many witnesses took to social media to give their reviews about the texture and taste of the food. “The jollof is so delicious, I’m eating mine right now. Hilda Baci really tried. Go Hilda Go Hilda Go.” – @juvics1, “The fact the she cooked that quantity of rice and it ended up looking that nice without getting overcooked, that’s good enough for me.” – @sallymiley. Some other funny remarks include “My own na next week, biggest bowl of eba bring soup when coming” – Mrlove556, “I cannot cook 3 spaghetti make e sweet, she try well well.” – @ubohoumoren1.

Some negative reviews were also made, but the Guinness World Records had something else to say about that, because on Monday, 15th September, 2025, celebrity chef Hilda Baci sponsored by Gino, was officially recognized as the Guinness World Record holder for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.
