Award shows and the top 5 reasons we all love them

Top 5 reasons we all love award shows

From the red carpet to the stage, award shows completely captivate audiences worldwide. But why? What makes award shows so compelling that we continuously tune in year after year? Here are the biggest reasons:

1. Recognition of Talent:

Talent without recognition is like a flower that blooms in the desert. This is applicable to most walks of life, and the entertainment industry is very much inclusive. Award shows, including the Oscars, BET Awards, the Grammys, AMVCA, and the Emmys, acknowledge and celebrate various astounding achievements in the entertainment industry. Knowing that the drive, passion, and talent of your favorite celebrity might finally be recognized globally is just enough to get you glued to your screen.

2.  Fashion Trends:

Award shows have become a platform for celebrities to make bold fashion statements. The red carpet has evolved into a runway, as these events often set the tone for upcoming fashion trends. This keeps not just fans, but designers and fashion enthusiasts captivated and eagerly awaiting the next award show.

3. The Suspense and Curiosity:

“Who will go home with an award? Who will not? How emotional or sassy will the winner’s speech be? What fashion statements will the celebrities make on the red carpet?” These and more are the questions that swirl in our minds as we eagerly anticipate an award show. The thrill, the suspense, the surprises; we wouldn’t want to miss a single moment!

4. The Gist and Gossips:

One of the most interesting things about award shows is the social media frenzy that ensues afterward: the memes, the rumors, the controversies, you name it. An award show may be over, but the real show starts online.

5. Inspiration and Motivation:

In 2020, American artist Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, now known as Doechii, made a video when she was relatively unknown. In that video, she shared that she had just gotten fired, but wasn’t going to let that stop her. “I think tomorrow, I’m just gonna go to a whole bunch of studios and ask if they have any internships open. Like, I’m just gonna go in.”

Fast-forward to 2025, that same clip resurfaced – not because she gave up, but because she made history. Doechii won Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards, joining Lauryn Hill and Cardi B as the third Black female artist to claim the award.

From being unemployed with no solid backup plan (just a dream and the willingness to pursue it to the fullest) to a global stage with the world watching.

This is what award shows are for, to encourage fandom. To prove that with dedication, hard work, and consistency, our aspirations can become reality.
