Many Afrobeat artists have made significant contributions globally, but till this day, only one person holds the title “King of Afrobeat,” and that is none other than Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The legendary Afrobeat pioneer left a lasting mark on music, so much so that even after his death, his legacy continues to live on through many ways, including one of the most anticipated annual music festivals, Felabration.
Conceived by his eldest child Yeni Kuti in 1998, the event has become a significant part of Africa’s music calendar, and the 2025 edition was no different.
Highlights of Felabration 2025
Felabration 2025 themed “Shakara” was the 25th-anniversary celebration of this iconic event, honoring the life and music of the Maestro.
The festival, as always, held during the week of his birthday; October 13th to 19th, at the New Afrika Shrine and Freedom Park in Lagos.
It included debates, art exhibitions, and fashion competitions, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Afrobeat.
This edition was proudly supported by sponsors including Fearless Energy Drink, Tiger Beer, Black Island Cafe Run, Checkers Custard, Indomie Noodles, Munch It, Just Food, Guinness, and Chelsea Dry Gin. Together, these brands helped honor Fela’s legacy in an unforgettable style.
Media partners for the event included Vybz 94.5FM, Opera Tune TV, Edigoro, Street Media, Music Africa, Eyes of a Lagos Boy, Mainland 98.3FM, Channels TV, among others.
The one-week-long event attracted visitors from different countries, alongside a star-studded lineup, including performances by Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, and other notable artists such as Shina Peters, Musiliu Haruna Ishola, Duncan Mighty, HarrySong, Qdot, Mr Real, Humble Smith, Faze, Orezi, Small Doctor, Magnito, Ladipo, May D, Guchi, Ara, and many more.
Overall, Felabration 2025 was a testament to Fela’s lasting legacy; uniting music, art, and activism in a celebration that will be remembered for years to come.
